WHAT IS SHADOWLIGHT?
All throughout human history, everywhere around the world, the belief in "other worlds" has existed side by side with the belief in magic and the supernatural. In fact, these two are one and the same. The Shadowlight is the world in-between that binds all other mythical Otherworlds together. It is intertwined with ours, yet unless you possess the gift of magic, it cannot be perceived. And magic and life flow from it.

THE PLOT SO FAR
The year is 2012. After the explosive and public 20th century, things have settled down. The old covens remain safely secret, the Guardians still keep watch. But the young defy the Laws of Secrecy, and everywhere there's rumors of dark magic. On All Hallows Eve the year shall "die" to lie entombed till it's once again reborn. Winter Solstice is the day, Fate and Time be squared and met.

the Shadowlight :: Ouroboros
[ ]Terra Firma
The lands of Shadowlight are as different and varied as the terrain of our world, only stranger. Villages, towns, and even cities exist. Yet, no one quite knows the complete geography of the Shadowlight. No one has been able to explore every corner of its lands.

[ ]Land of Mists
Were you to see a map of the Shadowlight, you would probably notice the "Lands of Mist" that appear everywhere. No one knows what shadows, or what lights, reside there. No one dares to go. Will you?

[ ]Whispering the Trees
Vast areas of the Shadowlight are covered in thick forests and jungles. The creatures of legends make their homes here, as well as the gods and goddesses associated with the wilderness. Though most are friendly, there's something to be said about trespassing on dangerous territories, or even holy ground. Don't take a step too far.

[ ]Voices of the Mountains
Rising slowly, but surely, the mountainous areas of the Shadowlight rise very high indeed. Legendary mountains exist here, along with their mythic inhabitants. Be careful not loose your footing!

[ ]All Across the Seven Seas
Like in our world, there are great bodies of water in Shadowlight. They are called "the Seven Seas" but a few are actually more like oceans. Vast, deep, and generally turbulent, the spirits, creatures, and gods of the Waters reside here. Be careful.

[ ]Empty Aether Promises
Even the air is alive. Even the winds can know your mind. Though shapeless and continuously changing the skies of Shadowlight are far from empty. From cloud kingdoms, to sylphs, to ancestral afterlives, the sky is positively teeming with life.

the Shadowlight :: Omphalos
[ ]Avalon
The site where several ley-lines interconnect, this small town in southern England is the bridge to the Otherworld known as Avalon. Since antiquity the Isle of Avalon was the focus for the worship of the Mother Goddess, even before the Celts and Romans entered the scene. (In the Shadowlight) Next to the Avalon is the Isle of the Druids, where ancient Celtic rituals of solar worship are still performed.

[ ]Delphi
Though now only ruins remain, it was once the epicenter of Greek culture and politics. In the Temple of Apollo (which had been a temple to Gaia beforehand), the most powerful and long lasting Oracle of ancient times presided: the Pythia. Priestess of Apollo, this remarkable woman was born and chosen from the common people of the city, and then trained to foresee the future. Though the Temple no longer stands, the portal to this Otherworld yet remains.

[ ]Pyramids of Giza
Many other gateways into the Shadowlight exist in Egypt, yet none quite as powerful as the Giza plateau. Here the three towering, magnificent pyramids keep the doors to the Shadowlight wide open, as they were designed to do. The ancient Egyptian Underworld lies just beyond--if you can find the portal, that is...

[ ]Pahá Sápa
The Black Hills of western South Dakota and Wyoming, USA are the sacred lands of the Lakota people. Rising up, isolated in the Great Plains, it is the center and focus of their spiritual, shamanic belief system. Before it was taken and ravaged by the US Army, it contained a circle of stone representing the Medicine Wheel--a symbolic representation of the universe. The surviving North American shamans still visit the site to perform their rites.

[ ]Teotihuacán
Like the Pyramids of Giza, this ancient Aztec pyramidal complex is literally one great gateway into the Shadowlight. Walking along La Via de los Muertos, you can enter into the city's equivalent in the Shadowlight, still thriving and intact.

[ ]Machu Picchu
Located 2,400 meters above sea level, at the very top of the mountain, a great structure was once built by the Incas during their imperial days before the Spanish Conquest. No one knows quite why it was built, or what happened there. The mystery remains for those who can cross the boundaries between worlds. And this is as close as it gets.

[ ]Kyoto
One thousand shrines, one thousand ways to enter the Shadowlight in Japan. Perhaps one of the most powerful places in all of Asia, Kyoto is just as old and revered. Just make sure you're ready for what lies beyond: a near-perfect replica of Feudal Japan. Did you bring your favorite katana?

[ ]Anywhere Else
Not only are those great and ancient places the gateways into the Shadowlight. Many more exist, whether still kept secret by the magic users who guard them, or simply not yet discovered.

the Americas :: New York City
[ ]It's All Fun & Games (5 sub-boards)
So much to do in New York City! Why you can entertain yourself silly, watch domestic or foreign films, go to a play or opera or symphony, go shopping, or even just lounge around with good friends in a comfortable café while sipping some delicious brew. It's all up to you!

[ ]Central Park
Thank goodness for a bit of grass and trees! When the concrete jungle gets to you, be sure to take a stroll here. Plenty of spots to rejuvenate the spirit, and plenty of people to keep you company--in a detached sort of way. A favorite hang out for Witches and Wiccans, who might feel overwhelmed at the artificiality of NYC.

[ ]Greenwich Village (1 sub-board)
The international center of bohemian and liberal culture, at least in America, this section of New York isn't what it used to be. The artists have fled due to the high cost of living, but the witches and magicians remain. Though secretive, it is a sure bet to find any number of them here, rather than anywhere else in NYC. Chances are, if your family has traditionally been magic users, they've set settled down here. NOTE: If you'd like your character to live here, tell me so and I'll add their place as a sub-board. :D

[ ]Neverwhere
To the mundane person without a drop of magic in their blood, there's nothing special about this doorway. It's made of weathered oak wood, and though it has some strange patterns on it, what's the big deal? But to those with eyes to see, and ears to hear, it throbs with magical power. Enter. It's alright, you're only stepping right into the Shadowlight.

the Americas :: Syracuse, NY
[ ]Gouver Residence
The ancestral home of the Gouver clan of Irish witches is located in Syracuse, New York. A city whose population contains a large percentage of Irish ancestry, it was the perfect place--beyond of the hectic activity of the City. Each successive generation of the coven has been born, raised, wed, and eventually died here. It could be said, with confidence, that as far as the magical community of this city is concerned, the Gouvers are its oldest and strongest link to the past.

Ireland :: Laytown, County Meath
[ ]City Commons (4 sub-boards)
Laytown was a small village up to very recently and it has been historically occupied by Irish witches, as well as other folks deem sympathetic toward magic. The secret is well kept from all outsiders. For those who travel through, there's always a certain charm about this place...

[ ]The Well
More accurately a natural spring, its located near the River Nanny, where St. Patrick was rumored to have driven out all the salmon. Regardless, access is now mostly overgrown, but not for the cunning witches who gather here for every Sabbat and full moon ritual!

[ ]Residences (1 sub-board)
Beautiful, quaint, picturesque. These small houses say quite simply that Laytown used to be no more than a village not so long ago. Though it has grown with other peoples, the essentially magical population of the town remains. NOTE: Send a message if you'd like your character's residence here.

Where is it that you'd like to be? Speak to me, and I'll make it happen. Plenty of places to visit in this interesting country, and though your characters might be inevitably connected to Laytown or the Hill of Tara, they may also roam elsewhere if they please.

Tales of Long Ago...
[ ]The Gierdan Twins
Before before and after time, somewhere trapped in all this time, a tale of brothers who could not bear, the road the Fates had meant for them. Their efforts and their woes, their quarrel that lives on even now.

[ ]Sydonai
This is a tale of treachery and lies, of a dead-born child who woke up from her slumber, and brought the dead to life in riotous war against her family. The tale of her imprisonment, and all the centuries since she's lain trapped and scheming to once again walk this Earth.
